3 mistakes you're making when trying to build your own friend group
If making friends as an adult feels harder than it should, it may not be because you’re bad at friendships, it’s just that you’re making one of these type of friendships.
You’re doing all the work and inviting the same people every time.
Instead: Every time you host something, invite one new person and tell them to bring one person too. They’re doing work too and your group is slowly expanding.
You’re making yourself the only planner.
If you’re always the one organizing, you’ll eventually burn out.
Homework: At the end of a get together, say: “Who wants to pick the next thing we do?” or “Who wants to host next month?” This can also help with reciprocity and accountability so that plans happen again.
You’re waiting until your house is perfect.
Instead: Host something ridiculously easy like a 30 minute walk. It won’t feel like a big commitment and you’re making it easy for them to say yes.
Your final takeaway:
Every friend group starts with one person reaching out. Why can’t that person be you?
