5 Ways to Style Leather for Fall and Winter

Super excited to bring you a new video and article today and we’re talking about something many of you had been asking about: LEATHER! Leather is one of this season’s hottest trends, and we’re going to be talking leather pants, leather skirts, leather midi skirts, leather blazers and tops in today’s video and as always, we’ll go in-depth with the psychological effects of wearing leather and how one might be perceived while doing so. And as always, we’ll finish off with some shopping for the best leather pieces!
Leather & What We Wear
What we wear communicates so much. It gives clues to others about how much money we make, our gender, our job, our religion, our mood, and how we see our self. For this very reason, clothes just aren’t something shallow – it’s actually a way of communicating.
Leather is associated with many different types of jobs or personas from pilots to rock singers to to cowboys to biker gangs to fashionistas. All personas that are typically CONFIDENT, cool or edgy and these are traits that you can also embody if you truly, truly believe you can. It’s not enough to just wear it. You need to believe it in yourself that you’ll look at cool, edgy and confident when you wear it.
Since leather is also a durable and tough fabric it also has a “don’t mess with me” effortless cool vibe when we wear it.
Leather Trend for Fall and Winter
Leather has been seen everywhere on the runways for Fall & Winter – from Alexander Wang to Tods to Proenza Schouler! It’s also a classic, timeless and durable fabric which means it’s a great fabric to own since it’ll last forever. Because of these items, leather is typically pretty pricey. However, with sustainability and animal cruelty being top of mind for many people as of late – alternative and vegan leathers are becoming quite popular. I’m actually wearing 2 items in this video that are vegan.
Faux Leather Pants
The first look is one you might be familiar with if you follow me on IG or YouTube. It features these faux leather pants. In this case, I paired it with one of my go-to’s blue sweaters and brown boots. I’ve been wearing these a lot and they’re surprisingly warm so they’ll work great for Fall & Winter.
Faux Leather Top
The next look features a great black, button-down style faux leather top that I found. Can you believe this one is only $16? Aside from being on-trend and affordable, it’s also super easy to style and you can simply style it as you would any white button down. Here, I paired it with black jeans (similar), a pearl headband, and brown snakeskin boots (similar).
Leather Jumpsuit
Boiler suits and jumpsuits are another big trend for fall and winter and this leather jumpsuit (similar) combines both making it a great 2-for-1 investment for the season. It’s super easy to style too as the jumpsuit is the perfect canvas to play with. You can choose to style as I do here, with brown accessories, or like I did back during NYFW, when I paired it with a bodysuit underneath and styled it off the shoulder.
Leather Skirts
But its not always about coming off edgy, right? So why not try wearing leather in a playful color like this neon green pleated skirt. It’s definitely a more feminine piece, but also very much on-trend as neon continues being big this fall & winter. I finished the look with all-black in the form of a sweater, boots, and coat. But as you’ll see int he video, I also styled it with brown in case you’re not big on black.
While others can perceive us as cool, confident, or edgy when we wear Leather. we also want to make sure we can invite people in – so I’d recommend balancing a leather look with softer colors or fabrics for a more feminine look.
For the last look in the video, I paired the black skirt with this white soft shearling bag and coat.
