Why You Should Be Wearing Yellow to WFH

Hi all,

I’m curious - what’s your stance on the color yellow? Yellow, or a shade of it (illuminating yellow, to be precise), has been chosen as one of the two Pantone colors of the year - the other being gray - which means we’re going to see quite a bit of it throughout 2021. So let’s take an in-depth look at the the color yellow, what it does, when to wear it, and when to skip it! And then of course, we’ll go shopping for some of my favorite yellow pieces for Spring!

Yellow and its associations

What’s the first thing you associate with the color yellow? Many see it as a happy color, and did you know there’s science behind that thinking too? Yellow can stimulate serotonin in the brain, a neurotransmitter that can help us be happy.

Serotonin is naturally released around sunlight, which unless you’re Florida, you haven’t seen too much of in the last few days as of writing, as the whole USA is under a super cold front. And while many might also associate yellow with Summer, it may be a great color to wear now, particularly as we’re working from home.

Wearing Yellow while WFH

Yellow can be a great color to wear for your Zoom/Hangout/Teams meetings and can lift your mood, when working from home too. So let’s take a look at some instances in which yellow might be a great option.

Brightening the day - are you in need of some cheer of your own, or know someone in your video call who needs some cheering up? Yellow is a great mood-booster.

Get Noticed! - are you looking to stand out as part of a presentation, or meeting? Yellow is the first color the human eye notices and very attention-grabbing. A great option then if you’re looking to get noticed.

On the other hand, there are instances in which we might want to skip yellow. For example, if you’re trying to blend in and NOT get noticed at all. Or if you’re more introverted and prefer to not draw attention. If you still want to wear yellow, but go under the radar, pastel yellow is great for this, and also for Spring.

So will you be wearing yellow this year? Let me know in the comments below!
