Tips to Get Ready with a Baby

Hi all,

Excited to share a brand new #DrCsTips post with you today and we’re talking about getting ready with a baby in partnership with Philips Avent and their Philips Avent Double Electric Breast Pump, Advanced. Moms, we’ve all been there. You have to get ready, or get stuff done, but with the baby, time just seems to fly and mornings evaporate like milk. During the first few months, getting ready with Oliver was impossible. As a result, my work suffered as did I, emotionally. I like to get ready in the mornings and all of a sudden, I couldn’t. Even though dad would help, I just ended up in pajamas all day somehow, someway. So I wanted to share with you some tips that help me get ready with Oliver and I hope they help you too!

Tip 1: Determine what's getting in your way and try to find solutions.

Obviously, Oliver isn’t going anywhere, so I have to find ways to make it work. Of course, if you can get help through grandma or a nanny, that’s great, too! But often times we can’t, right?

After some observations, I realized that pumping took up most of my time and doing it while taking care of Oliver became a complicated activity. So much so, that at times, I just wouldn’t pump. So, I went out in search of a hands-free pump and found the Philips Avent Double Electric Breast Pump, Advanced  . When used with a pumping bra, it lets you go hands-free since it comes with a belt to hold the pump for you. That means I can move around and play with Oliver while pumping at the same time.

Tip 2: Have a schedule & routine.

Getting ready each day at the same time & having a schedule helps me be more focused and productive.

Tip 3: Rotate toys!

I bring a bunch of toys with me wherever I’m getting ready and I only let him have one at a time. I keep the others out of sight. This helps prolong the time Oliver is entertained .

Tip 4: Be flexible!

If one morning I can’t get ready at the same time, I adjust. So if that day I need to get ready over the span of the morning instead of one chunk of time, I roll with it. Why? It prevents me from getting frustrated.

I also try being flexible in where I get ready. Sometimes I blow dry my hair near his play area, as opposed to my bathroom. I’ll then later on finish getting ready during his nap time.
