Color Psychology in Interior Design

Hi all,

This post has been months in the making! Today, I’m excited to share the unveiling of my closet/office and we’ll talk a bit in depth on why I made the design choices I made and things you might want to consider as well if you’re decorating your home as well. We’ll touch on the Psychology of Interior Design and share details on the items you see here, in partnership with Kathy Kuo. You can get in touch with their Design Services team too for your next project and get to concepting!

Psychology of Interior Design - What colors mean in interior design

Changes to colors, light, and layout can most certainly have an impact on ones mood & productivity (though it may be subjective, as personal experiences, values, & culture can impact these things) so how can psychology help you design the perfect space?

Colors

White tends to be one of the more popular room colors. It reflects light and can make a room feel bigger and brighter. It can also evoke a feeling of cleanliness. It’s a great color to use in combination with other colors. For my closet/office, I thought it was a great color to be the background for my clothing.

If you're looking to create a calming space opt for neutrals, greens, and blues.

Need a mood boost? Opt for pinks, oranges and yellows while steering clear of greys, reds & purples.

Light

Be mindful of the Light: sunlight can boost mood and productivity!

If a space is dark that’s okay, try to have light floors, incorporate light colored or acrylic furniture, and use mirrors to pick up any light!

Layout

An open space free of clutter can facilitate a better headspace when working. Just think about the headache of trying to navigate a small space with too much furniture (reminds me of my NYC space ha)!

Kathy Kuo

The gorgeous oval bench is from Kathy Kuo and it’s simply stunning. I thought it was the perfect bench to use for the desk, which is acrylic and glass also from Kathy Kuo, but from a few years ago. The chandelier is quite the showstopper as well.

Next up: The blinds, and secret door to the hidden closet area. Come to come!
