Psychology Behind Fashion: Sally LaPointe Fall / Winter 2019

Sally LaPointe is known for bold and super luxe pieces that are feminine yet have the perfect amount of edge. With celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid rocking her pieces, it’s no secret that this is a brand for those that want to achieve an uncomplicated yet cool and luxe look.

The fall and winter collection was inspired by a sartorial story from Elvis’s 1968 comeback special and the brand applies this to modern day dressing. Drawn from a time when Elvis revitalized his own career, I think the same can be said for the modern woman that is ready to take charge, take control, and ownership of her role in the modern world. And that a woman can be both strong and feminine.

This was conveyed in both the design of the pieces and in the color story. Take for instance the utility pants that were designed. They are silk, soft and ultra-feminine but the addition of the utility pockets adds the right amount of masculinity to create an overall strong piece for the modern woman. The utility pant also happens to be a big trend for 2019.

As for the color story, the pieces were showcased first in black, a color that is symbolic for emotional armor and followed by pieces in white which can be representative of a clean start. The head-to-toe looks then progressed to colors like green, which is often associated with reassurance, and purple, which helps you tap into your own personal power. They then continued to brown, a color that is dependable and safe, and concluded in red, which is the most confident color of them all.

The result was a collection that is both timeless and wearable but also one that helps a woman be confident and reassured in herself in the modern world.
