Hot Trend Alert: Western Trend 101

Hi all,

Super excited today to kick start my new fall trend series, in which we're going to take a look at not only the western trend, but also neon, leopard, silk scarf and more. Today, we begin with a high level view of the western trend, though be on the look out for more in-depth articles soon.

So are you ready for the wild, wild west this Fall? Well this might have been the biggest or one of the biggest trends for this upcoming season. The trend dominated the runways from New York to Paris from Isabel Marant to Coach to Veronica Beard to Etro to Chloe to Louis Vuitton. But this doesn’t mean we have to look like we’re going to Coachella or a rodeo to be on trend. So what should we be looking for when shopping?

What is the western trend?

As the name suggests, the western trend is all about incorporating western-inspired pieces and accessories to your look. Now, this doesn't mean you need to transport yourself to the wild west for it. This particular outfit you see me wearing, was purposely meant to be a bit exaggerated with several pieces of the trend being added. However, you could easily just grab some accesories, like cowboy boots, or elements like fringe to rock the trend. Let's take a look at some ideas for individual pieces you could invest in to join the western trend.

Shopping for the Western Trend

For clothes, you can rock denim jumpsuits and overalls, for example. Other options include shirts with sharp collars, shirts with puffy sleeves, prairie dresses, black vests (Seen on Isabel Marant runway) (for the one I linked below – I’m wearing a size Large for an oversized look), suede or leather shorts (seen on Yves Saint Laurent runway) or trousers. Ultimately, look for pieces that incorporate fringe or have leather or suede.

For accessories, you can also have fun with many options. For example, add a horsebuckle belt over a dress or blazer. Or wear a bolo tie as a neckace over a blazer. Be on the lookout for saddle bags or satchels, cowboy or cap toed boots, hoops and star studs, and scarfs worn around the neck.

The particular outfit I’m wearing is appropriate for the warmer days, as I was visiting La la Land but below you will find some of my favorite on trend pieces:
